AI VS CONVENTIONAL ACADEMIC LEARNING

Image
Academics are warning that AI could alter the world the way we know it now. Can you imagine an Artificial Intelligence robotic Lawyer representing you before a judge in court? It’s knowledge of case law will be limitless and 99.99% accurate.  With Artificial Intelligence Robotic Attorneys, we really may not need humans going to law school, the profession may become obsolete.  What about an Artificial Intelligence robotic medical doctor? Do you know it’s ability to diagnose illness and prescribe medication will be more accurate than human medical doctors?  In the future we may not need humans as lawyers or medical doctors.  I just watched an Artificial Intelligence robotic medical doctor attending to a patient on Fox News this morning.  Just imagine programmed artificial intelligence army sent to Sambisa to confront Boko haram. Technology may be the solution to the world's problems.  Sometimes it is scary to think of how the world will be another...

TARIQ IBN-ZIYAD

Image
TARIQ IBN-ZIYAD āriq ibn Ziyād (Arabic: طارق بن زياد), also known simply as Tarik in English, was a Berber commander who served the Umayyad Caliphate and initiated the Muslim Umayyad conquest of Visigothic Hispania (present-day Spain and Portugal) in 711–718 AD. Medieval Arabic historians give contradictory data about Ṭāriq's origins and nationality. Some conclusions about his personality and the circumstances of his entry into  al-Andalus  are surrounded by uncertainty.  The vast majority of modern sources state that Ṭāriq was a Berber  mawla  of  Musa ibn Nusayr , the Umayyad governor of  Ifriqiya .  He is traditionally said to have been born in the  Tlemcen region ;  he had also lived there with his wife prior to his governance of Tangier.  Tariq Ibn Ziyad, was a berber from the tribe of the Ulhassa,  a tribe native to the Tafna  and currently inhabits the  Béni Saf  region in  Algeria . Tribes living in the southern parts of the Hausaland were referred to as "kasashen bauchi" and the area they lived in later came to be known simply as Bauchi. The second version the state was named for Baushe, a famous hunter who settled there before the 19th century. The third states that ‘bauchi’ is Hausa word for s...

HAUSA NAMES AS ETHNOGRAPHIC

Hausa Names as Ethnographic Identifiers It happened 40 years ago. A friend’s wife in Kano had delivered a bouncing baby boy. My friend chose Maikuɗi as the name for the baby. The families on both sides were having none of this. Maikuɗi was not a name, they argued. But he saw nothing wrong with it – a nice traditional Hausa name. He was adamant. They were adamant. Cue in A Mexican Standoff.  Three days to the naming ceremony, he blinked first, and apparently gave up. With a glint in his eyes, he decided to name the child Ibrahim. A beautiful Hebrew name but cognately shared by both Muslims and Christians (from Abraham, the father of all). Everyone was happy – until it dawned on everyone that Ibrahim was the name of my friend’s father-in-law. Tricky. In Hausa societies, names of parents are never uttered. In the end, everyone ended up calling the boy Maikuɗi! Right now, the boy is a successful international businessman living in the Middle East. Earning serious cash, and living up to...
